About me

Lasya Aji Silpa Professional Headshot

I am a fashion designer, educator, and researcher whose work explores the intersections of fashion, technology, sustainability, and culture. I currently serve as Director of Foundations and Assistant Professor at Appalachian State University, where I design interdisciplinary learning experiences that foster creativity, critical thinking, and material exploration.

My research focuses on sustainable and bio-based textiles, fashion symbolism, digital fabrication, and emerging technologies in fashion practice and design education. Drawing from both academic scholarship and industry experience, I investigate how design can foster innovation while preserving cultural narratives and advancing more responsible futures.

Through my creative practice, I explore storytelling, materiality, and craftsmanship as ways to connect people, ideas, and experiences. Across teaching, research, and practice, I aim to bridge traditional methods with contemporary technologies to develop thoughtful, inclusive, and forward-thinking approaches to fashion and design.
